How the Sealdah Metro Station Connects to the Railway Terminal
Sealdah metro station opened on the Green Line (the East-West corridor) in July 2022, and it is the single biggest improvement to the area in years. The metro station is underground, immediately adjacent to the railway terminal, and a pedestrian subway links the two, so you do not have to cross the traffic on APC Roy Road to change between them.
The Green Line now runs the full stretch from Howrah Maidan in the west to Salt Lake Sector V in the east, after the Esplanade to Sealdah tunnel section opened in August 2025. This trips up a lot of first-time visitors, and the answer is simple: check your ticket, because the two terminals are on opposite sides of the Hooghly and roughly forty-five minutes apart in traffic.
As a rough rule, Howrah handles the larger share of long-distance traffic toward western, southern and central India, while Sealdah leans toward the north east, north Bengal, Bihar and the Bangladesh border corridor, plus the entire eastern and southern suburban network.
