First and Last Metro Timings in Kolkata by Line (Blue, Green, Yellow, Purple, Orange)

Kolkata metro timings differ by line, and the first and last trains are fixed for each line rather than for each station. On the Blue and Green Lines, trains currently run from about 6:00 am to 10:30 pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 9:00 am to 10:30 pm on Sundays, after the hours were extended in late July 2026. The Yellow Line to the airport runs from roughly 7:18 am to 9:58 pm on weekdays. The Purple Line runs on weekdays from about 6:40 am to 9:26 pm and on Saturday afternoons only, with no Sunday service. The Orange Line runs on weekdays only, from about 8:00 am to 8:05 pm. These are terminal departure times, so a station in the middle of a line sees its first and last train later than the figures here. Timings also change during festivals, so check the official Metro Railway notice before a late-night trip.

First and Last Metro Timings by Line

Blue Line first and last train

The Blue Line is the oldest and busiest corridor, and it is the one most people mean when they ask about the last metro in Kolkata. Until July 2026 the first train left at about 6:50 am and the last at around 9:44 pm. The extended schedule now starts at 6:00 am and ends at 10:30 pm on weekdays and Saturdays. On Sundays the first train leaves at 9:00 am. Trains come roughly every 8 to 10 minutes through the day. For station-by-station detail, see our Blue Line guide.

Green Line first and last train

The Green Line follows the same hours as the Blue Line, with a 6:00 am start and a 10:30 pm finish on weekdays and Saturdays, and a 9:00 am start on Sundays. Frequency is highest at peak hours, around one train every six minutes, and thinner outside the rush. Because the line crosses under the Hooghly, it is the quickest way between Howrah and Salt Lake in the evening.

Yellow Line (airport) timings

The airport line is shorter and runs less often, with a train about every 18 minutes. It starts a little after 7:00 am and finishes before 10:00 pm, so it does not suit very early or very late flights. Our airport to city guide compares the metro with taxis for those hours.

Purple Line timings

The Purple Line between Joka and Majerhat has a limited timetable. On weekdays the first train leaves Joka at around 6:40 am and the last at about 9:05 pm from Joka, with trains roughly every 21 minutes. On Saturdays it runs only in the afternoon, and on Sundays it does not run. Anyone commuting from Behala should read our Purple Line guide and keep a bus or auto as a backup.

Orange Line timings

The Orange Line currently has the shortest operating window, from about 8:00 am to 8:05 pm on weekdays, with a train about every 25 minutes and no weekend service. See the Orange Line guide for stations and fares.

What Is the Last Metro in Kolkata at Night?

For most travellers the practical answer is 10:30 pm from the terminal stations on the Blue and Green Lines. A passenger boarding at a middle station will find the last train a little later than the terminal time, but you should not cut it fine. Aim to be on the platform at least 20 minutes before the published last train, and have a taxi or app cab as a backup if you are travelling from a busy area such as Esplanade or Park Street.

Do Metro Timings Change on Sundays and Holidays?

Yes. Sundays start later, and holidays usually mean fewer trains with the same first and last times. During Durga Puja, Kali Puja and similar festivals Metro Railway often announces special schedules, extra late-night services on the Blue and Green Lines, and temporary closures on smaller lines. We cover those announcements in our news section, for example the October 2026 Puja metro schedule.

Tips for Planning Around Metro Timings

Check the day of the week first, because Saturday and Sunday timetables differ on every line. Buy a smart card in advance so you are not stuck in a ticket queue near closing time. Keep one alternative route in mind, using our complete guide to getting around Kolkata, in case a service is cancelled. The official source for notices is the Metro Railway Kolkata website, and it should always override any third-party timetable, including this one.
